Treatment Options
At Western Cardiovascular Associates your treatment options are based on your treatment needs. Because of advancing medical technology and the experience and expertise of our surgeons, many of our treatment options involve minimally invasive surgeries. Minimally invasive surgeries offer the same efficacy of open heart or open chest procedures, without the trauma of exposing the heart during surgery and without having to separate the breastbone or ribcage. If an open heart or open chest procedure is necessary, you can rest assured that you will receive superior care in our state-of-the-art surgical facilities.
If you have no underlying heart disease that requires an open heart procedure, you may be able to undergo minimally invasive surgery to cure atrial fibrillation. WCA also offers a minimally invasive surgical option to repair a thoracic or abdominal aneurysm, and is pioneering minimally invasive techniques for valvular heart disease. If you suffer from hyperhidrosis, video assisted thoracic surgery, or VATS, is available for sympathectomy of involuntary nerves.
Atrial fibrillation can be cured. Whether you receive an open heart Maze procedure or a minimally invasive Mini-Maze surgery, Dr. Affleck's surgical ablation procedure is 90% successful with patients who have intermittent atrial fibrillation, and 70% successful with patients suffering from continuous AF.
Dr. Schorlemmer repairs thoracic and abdominal aneurysms using a minimally invasive endovascular stent procedure. Because of the minimally invasive procedure, Dr. Schorlemmer's patients have a shorter hospital stay and smoother recovery.
Dr. Kent Thorne specializes in valve repair and replacement. Whether you suffer from aortic stenosis or mitral valve regurgitation, Dr. Thorne will advise you about your treatment options and will provide the optimal surgical procedure for your valve repair or replacement needs.
