A new "pen-like" device is being used at St. Marks and Timpanogos Hospitals in Salt Lake City to help irregular heart beats. This procedure, referred to as Mini-Maze, is a one-time treatment for atrial fibrillation that was approved by the FDA less than a year ago. It is proving to have a 90- to 100-percent success rate. Salt Lake cardiovascular surgeon Dr. David Affleck was interviewed on KSL TV, channel 5, to explain how he cures patients by finding and destroying problem-causing nerves.
